This artwork endeavors to emphasize as a visual feeling “while we are in mirth, the earth is in pain“. The variety of colors depict the level and richness of urbanization and cracks depicts the pain the earth is suffering . This is not a collage of patterns and colors rather it joins hands with conservationists.
As the world becomes more and more urbanized with hi fidelity lifestyle with cherished comforts, it’s important to understand the effects this has on both people and nature. Cities are engines of growth, but they also come with a cost. Urbanization is changing our planet – for better or for worse? Does Everything Leads to Comfort with a good trade off cost? Apart from air quality, water scarcity, biodiversity loss, a grave concern facing our earth is bad landfill, very sensitive response during rain. Urban expansion is taking away forests, wetlands and agricultural systems causing fragmentation. We are in process to drive some species to extinction.
A consumptive urban lifestyle leads to soil pollution by the dumping of waste, the use of pesticides and fertilizers, and the release of toxins from factories. Another effect of unplanned urbanization is the loss of green space. As more land is being developed for housing and industry, there is less space for natural areas. This can lead to a decrease in biodiversity and an increase in the “heat island effect“, as we find cities are now significantly hotter than the surrounding countryside. Monthly rainfall is greater downwind of cities due the effect cause more disruptions in urban life .The loss of green spaces also reducing the quality of life for elderly residents because on their mental health and well-being.
