Landscape Sketch
This Eid Holidays, I travelled to the beautiful country of Georgia with my parents. While we covered a couple of places including the capital city Tbilisi, the best part of this trip was the time spent at a ski resort in Kazbegi, a gorgeous winter paradise with mountains, winding roads and beautiful scenery.
The hotel we stayed was one of the best resorts– Rooms Hotel Kazbegi. The unique feature about this hotel was that the balconies were covered with thin black metallic frames and the overall structure was made of bricks. In fact, it looked as if some old-time prison had been converted into a hotel, even though it was very luxurious and comfortable.
The view captured in this drawing is from the hammocks in the backyard of the hotel. Since the time of our travel was spring, there was grass growing all over the place and while lying on the hammock, I was able to see the entire depth of the scenery – the distance between me and the shrubs, an elevation on the ground right until the hotel structure.
The interesting part of the hotel was that on the base of the hotel is the pool and sauna. If you observe closely, you might spot a wooden sauna with people relaxing inside. A level up was the huge outdoor dining area that could easily accommodate up to a hundred people. And the next level were the rooms.
This particular view suited the style of my drawing. I decided to keep it black and white while the shading on the silhouettes helps in bringing out the depth of characters. I also wanted to capture the sheer density of the flora around me. I put special emphasis on the architecture because I really found it unique.
