DURGA PUJA – A NOSTALGIA THAT GRASP’S EVERY BONG’S EMOTIONS!!!!
Why are all Bongs so crazy about Durga Puja? Goddess Durga symbolizes the divine forces (positive energy) known as divine shakti (feminine energy/ power) that is used against the negative forces of evil and wickedness. She protects her devotees from evil powers and safeguards them. It isn’t just an event that brings the city of Kolkata to a halt. Durga Puja is a festival that brings people together all across India. The fun, food, and fervor that Durga Puja brings is something that can’t be replicated. The entire city turns into a beautiful dreamland of joy and togetherness. The puja is done for five days which is also considered as the homecoming of Durga who was married. The festival is celebrated by people exchanging greetings and homemade sweets to family and loved ones. Even the non-believers take an active part in these celebrations and you will see people decked up in new traditional outfits. Though Durga Puja is a Hindu festival, people from all faiths come together to celebrate this festival or at least be a part of this. It truly is a great sight to watch people from different sights and faiths enjoy this beautiful festival. I’ve done this abstract form of “Maa” in watercolor and on handmade paper. If you see closely you can understand it took me several days to finish it, as I used layers after layers to get the final effect. While using watercolor I had to wait till it dries completely and then again work on it.
