Abstract Dancer Oil Painting
I have always loved dancing and music even though I’m not a dancer or singer myself. When I was young I liked some of the modern artists of the moment especially those who knew how to dance nicely. During my stay in Spain, I really enjoyed watching flamenco dancers. Their moves, the clapping, and the signing is a mirror of life. Love, hate, treason, disappointment. They are the voices from the south. When I came to the Middle East and I saw the belly dancers, I realized that dancing is an aesthetic manifestation of different ways of understanding life and culture.
I decided to create a series of paintings with dancers from places I have lived. This is part of that series. This painting in particular was made using palette knives and a lot of shades of purple, lilac, and even fluorescent pink. The palette knife gives the lady her figure and helps lighten the place where she’s dancing. Violet, pink and lavender strokes of a palette knife create the body of a solemn woman navigating the dark by following the rhythm of her heart.
