Indian Acrylic Painting
‘The peaceful sleep of my tired bones, No bed, no quilt, just shards of stones, My painful feet, bare and cold, With no one to care, no one to hold. I toil in labor day and night, To bring my darkness a shred of light.’ Growing up in India, the site of tired workers sleeping on the streets was prevalent. The Slumber of Labor is inspired by the pain and hardship that minimum wage workers, such as construction workers live through to earn their bare minimum. It also exemplifies the sleep of exhaustion that cares for no comfort or luxury, just a momentary rest for exhausted bones.
“For as labor cannot produce without the use of land, the denial of the equal right to the use of land is necessarily the denial of the labor to its own products.”- Henry George
