Landscape Acrylic Painting
A hyper realistic landscape painting, using the technique of blocked in and glazing painted before adding on the details. The medium used is heavy body acrylics on a pastel board panel. ‘The Edward’s Gate’, the title of this painting is the actual name of this gateway. This painting is my rendition of a black and white photo of a 19th century gateway during the British Raj in the then North West Frontier Province which is now the modern day Peshawar, Pakistan. I wanted to recreate the noir image using traditional palette of paints and depict how the simple lifestyle of two centuries ago would have looked in colours. My artist’s attempt in using earthly tones of pastel pink and browns for the monumental gate to create a sober, warm impression of the busy marketplace. Lighter tints of ultramarine blue for the sky and shades of raw umber and yellow oxide for the dusty road gives the feel of a humid, early afternoon atmosphere.
