UAE Watercolor Painting
Restoration is a watercolor painting of a wind tower on top of a ‘Bastaki’ house in one of the oldest standing residential area of Dubai. This beautiful artwork captures UAE’s history and heritage. Now called Al Fahidi Neighbourhood, the quaint area was primarily inhabited by Iranian merchants who had established their businesses in the pearl and textile trades. The artist fell in love with this area as she walked the winding alleyways stumbling upon one charming house after another. She learnt that the wind tower is the air conditioner of yester-year and was designed to funnel cool air through the building. The area was in ruins for a long period of time, but restoration work began soon and today it is a fully functional cultural and artistic area with art galleries, and restaurants serving local food. It remains a favourite of the artist and a must-see for all her guests.
