Parrot Watercolor Painting
My fascination with macaws began after I heard about an ancient legend about how a Zuni priest and how he asked a community of people to choose from two sets of egg colors, blue or red, each representing two sets of different values. Those who fed the baby macaw birds became the summer people and those that fed the other young baby bird were those that chose the raven. The raven people were also known as the Winter People, and they were many and strong. But those who had chosen the macaw became the Macaw People. They were the Summer People and few in number and less strong, but they were wiser because they were more deliberate.
The priest Yanauluha, being wise, became their father, even as the Sun-father is among the little moons of the sky. He and his sisters were the ancestors of the priest-keepers of things. This wonderful encouraged the community to pursue different paths. This close up of a macaw was painted with watercolors on A3 cold pressed paper. This painting can brighten any space.
