Abstract Acrylic Painting
This painting tries to capture the childhood memories of the artist, living in the walled city of Lahore and it’s colorful night lights, local funfairs and shopping streets. The title of the painting suggests how the artist tries to create a colorful map through her imagination and memory of her lived experiences and emotions. The colored shapes almost seem like Lego blocks, trying to construct a structure that is reminiscent of the small multiple story houses in the old Lahore. The use of blue, green and orange hold a nostalgic value, for they were the colors of the walls in the artist’s tiny house growing up. The shapes and textures of the painting have a tactile quality created through the use of plaster and paint applied with a palette knife along with some smooth flat surfaces using a paint brush. The artist is trying to rebuild her childhood in a very abstract way to reflect how memories alter and fade away with time. This painting uses forms and shapes in a very fluid composition rather than crisp, clean lines in order to add softness and depth. The artist wants her viewers to feel a sense of joy and nostalgia, looking at this painting.
